NY1 Exclusive: Red Cross Worker Charged With Alleged Sexual Abuse Of Woman Who Lost Her Home To Sandy

A Red Cross worker is charged with sexually assaulting a woman who turned to him for help after Hurricane Sandy destroyed her Queens home. NY1's Dean Meminger filed the following report.

Evergreen Washington says a Red Cross worker should be stripped of his red and white uniform and put in a prison jumpsuit.

"Before you knew it, he was pulling off his shirt, pulling off his pants, and I'm asking him, 'What are you doing?'" she said.

Washington doesn't want her face shown, but she wants her story heard. She said the Red Cross Worker, Rodney Roy, came to visit Hurricane Sandy victims staying at the YMCA in Harlem. She said he offered her a room at the Lexington Hotel in Midtown, but she alleges that while she was in that room, Roy used another key to get in and groped her.

"He tricked me into thinking that he was going to help me, when his thing was sex," she said. "He wanted to have sex with me.

"He started to try to calm me down from being upset from rubbing my butt. I was like, 'You know that's very inappropriate, that you're not supposed to be doing that. First of all, you're not supposed to be in this room with me.' He knew that it wasn't that type of party. So immediately, he started to 'I apologize, I didn't mean to do that.'"

Washington said she has more than 20 text messages with her alleged attacker after the incident.

"He texts me and told me, 'Don't bother coming back, your room key has been deactivated,'" she said.

Washington said when she sent him a text saying "You wanted sex. That's all,"
he responded: "Not really, although it did feel good to have you here. We don't have to have sex, the company was cool."

Washington said the police also recorded a phone conversation she had with the man.

"The way he was talking to me, was like, 'I talked to God, you should forgive me 'cause God has forgave me,'" she said. "But I'm not God, and you didn't grope God."

Roy is charged with forcible touching and sexual abuse. NY1 reached out to him. He said he could not talk about the case.

The Red Cross also said it would be inappropriate to discuss the details, but it will cooperate with law enforcement.

Washington said she's planning to sue the organization for hiring a relief worker who she says is a predator.
