Sources tell NY1 that Consolidated Edison and the Long Island Power Authority have been subpoenaed for information on their response during and after Hurricane Sandy.

A person with knowledge of the subpoenas said they were handed down by the special commission created earlier this month by Governor Andrew Cuomo.

The commission wants to find out just how prepared the utilities were before the storm and how they responded once the storm hit.

After review, the investigative panel is expected to recommend ways to improve the state's power delivery system.

When the commission was first announced, Con Ed said it looked forward to working together, while LIPA said that given the amount of extreme weather New York has seen recently, a statewide study would be "appropriate."
