In a move that could cost the city funding to combat terrorism, Representative Peter King of Long Island is stepping down as chairman of the House Homeland Security Committee.

King is wrapping up his seventh year as Homeland Security Chair and has to step down because of self-imposed Republican term limits.

Over the last three years, the federal government has cut the anti-terrorism money it gives to cities by 40 percent.

New York State's appropriation has held steady at about $150 million a year.

King will remain a member of the committee.
