The Downtown Brooklyn Partnership is rolling out free trolley service in Brooklyn for the holidays.

Every Saturday from now through December 22, the gas-powered street cars will loop around a mile-long route, starting at Boerum Place, and run east along Livingston Street, then down Flatbush Avenue, passing the Barclays Center.

The trolley will swing back around, heading west through Fulton Street, passing the Fulton Mall and Junior's Restaurant.

"We've got a historian on board talking about everything from architecture, the history of transportation to now the new retail that's popping up," said Katie Lyon of Downtown Brooklyn Partnership.

"The livability of New York is in Brooklyn, so if people want to see how people are living and see the great old 19th Century neighborhoods, they have to come to Brooklyn," said Joe Svehlak, a tour guide. "Plus, we're a bunch of characters."

The trolley will swing back around, heading west through Fulton Street, passing the Fulton Mall and Junior's Restaurant.

Organizers say if the pilot program takes off, the trolleys could become a permanent fixture in the neighborhood.
