Staten Island victims of Hurricane Sandy are getting a helping hand from an organization that was originally started to help September 11th first responders.

Volunteers from STAR, or "Small Town America Responds," are distributing free hot meals and supplies from tents set up in Midland Beach.

"I have a lot of people that are, you know, really grateful for what we do, so, you know, it's nice," said Anthony Hall, a STAR organizer. "We like the response, but we more like the fact that people are getting involved."

"Just to help out, you know, and to help out our neighbors," said Leroy Middleton, a New Brighton resident. "Just to see the people who are so thankful, that they once had and now they lost everything. "

The tents are at the corner of Midland Avenue and Moreland Street every day between 8 a.m. and 10 p.m.
