A Buddhist disaster relief organization is helping Sandy victims get back on their feet.

Families gathered at the Concord Baptist Church in Bedford-Stuyvesant, where members of the Tzu Chi Foundation distributed cash assistance and aid packages.

The organization is collecting donations from all over the world, partnering with Comptroller John Liu to support relief efforts in our area.

"Families who a little more than three weeks after Hurricane Sandy are still hurting very much, and this cash assistance will come in handy just in time for Thanksgiving," Liu said.

"We need to help each other and to care and love those people," said George Zheng of the Tzu Chi Foundation. "They're still on their way to recover."

"It was so much love," said Valerie Hill, who collected cash assistance. "People were caring about one another, they weer helping one another. It's times like this that we do need to come together. I'm just hoping it lasts."
