A SoHo-based organization provided Thanksgiving meals to New Yorkers too sick to cook for themselves.

Volunteers joined celebrities and elected officials to prepare thousands of meals and emergency kits for God's Love We Deliver.

The organization distributes meals to city residents with illnesses such as AIDS and cancer.

God's Love lost power during Hurricane Sandy, but that wasn't going to stop volunteers from giving back on one of its busiest days of the year.

"Once we were open again, we knew we needed to ramp up quickly, so we immediately started checking to see how our clients were doing," said Dorella Walters, program director with God's Love We Deliver. "There were over 200 clients that were affected in some way, so we kept in touch with them and their families and have been serving them throughout."

"This is my favorite part of Thanksgiving every year," said volunteer Shannon Brown. "Some people talk about an exercise high or a runner's high, which I have never had, but I definitely get a volunteer high, and the energy here is just amazing."
