Employees from NY1's parent company, Time Warner Cable, helped out with Sandy clean-up efforts in the Midland Beach section of Staten Island on Sunday, clearing debris from local beaches.

On Saturday, another group traveled to Far Rockaway in Queens to restore its beaches.

Volunteers said they hoped their work made a small but lasting difference in the community.

"Our employees were clamoring to do something in the different neighborhoods," said Karen LaCava, a Time Warner Cable employee.

"We've been heavily involved with the community, helping those impacted since the beginning. It's just devastating to see this in Staten Island, you never think it would happen here," said Jeffrey Hershkowitz, another Time Warner Cable employee.

Since Sandy hit, Time Warner Cable has also sent out trucks to hard-hit areas, distributing food and letting residents charge their phones.

Meanwhile, several popular city food trucks headed over to Staten Island to treat some Sandy victims on Sunday.

The food trucks provided free hot meals courtesy of a partnership between the Mayor's Fund, the New York City Food Truck Association and the New York City Food Film Festival.

Storm victims at the Miller Field distribution center in New Dorp said they appreciated the tasty food and the wide variety.

Food trucks have so far served or donated more than 160,000 meals in areas severely impacted by the storm.
