The building with the affected crane, 157 West 57th Street, is a luxury residential tower called One57 that when completed will be 90 stories and the tallest of its kind in the city.

No injuries have been reported.

The working jib of the crane appears to have bent backwards, but Mayor Michael Bloomberg said this evening that its main tower appeared to be well-secured.

The crane was last inspected on October 26, and the mayor said the crane was used by a "reputable company."

According to a city source, two FDNY engineers climbed up the damaged crane to determine what should be done.

The pipes under the street were shut off as precaution, according to the mayor.

FDNY officials say evacuations took place on all buildings on the north and south sides of West 57th Street between Sixth and Seventh Avenues and all exposed buildings on 56th Street between Sixth and Seventh Avenues.

Officials from the fire and police departments and the Department of Buildings were all inspecting the site.

Fire officials say that currently the streets between Fifth to Seventh Avenues and from 56th to 59th Streets are closed.
