The Javits Center on Manhattan's West Side hosted what was billed as the world's largest showcase of purebred cats and dogs.

Pet lovers checked out more than 200 breeds of cats and dogs from around the world at the American Kennel Club's "Meet The Breeds" event.

The event also features pet performances and feats of agility.

"This is a family-friendly event, it's open to the public, it's a great place to bring your kids if you're thinking about adding a dog to your lifestyle, or a cat," said AKC spokesperson Lisa Peterson. "You can come here and do your research to see what the best breed for your lifestyle is."
