Crystal, who had been with her stepfather when she was found, was pronounced dead at the hospital.

The girl had been sick right before her death, according to her cousin, Pastor Noe.

"She was always with her stepfather, because her mother used to work. I don't know what happened. All I know is that she was sick the day before, that she was throwing up," Noe said.

The city medical examiner was conducting an autopsy on Saturday.

Surveillance video appears to show the girl's stepfather pacing outside the apartment building.

The girl's stepfather and mother were interviewed by police as a matter of protocol.

Sources tell NY1 the Administration for Children's Services is also conducting an investigation.
