The man police were looking for in connection with a deadly double shooting outside a Bronx motel has been found dead in Florida of an apparent suicide.
According to sources, NYPD officers tracked Joseph Kernizan, 42, to a house in Miami.
The officers, along with U.S. marshals and Miami police, surrounded the house around 11 p.m. Tuesday and ordered residents to leave.
Sources say Kernizan fled the house but saw police and ran back inside.
A gunshot was heard moments later, and when police went inside, they found Kernizan dead with a bullet wound to the head.
"The body was down inside the apartment, and there were guns near that body as well. We made entry and discovered that this subject took his own life," said U.S. Marshal Barry Golden.
Police say Kernizan shot Wayne Hamilton, 50, and Tracy Bennett, 38, in the parking lot of the Holiday Motel on the New England Thruway Saturday morning.
Sources say Bennett was Kernizan's wife and that Hamilton was her boyfriend.
Hamilton was a reggae artist who performed under the name Captain Barkey.
