The city's bravest honored all those who have fallen over the past year Wednesday.

11 service members were recognized during the FDNY's annual memorial ceremony at Manhattan's Firemen’s Monument.

Fire Commissioner Salvatore Cassano said each dedicated their lives towards keeping the city safe.

Among those honored was Lieutenant Joseph DiBernardo, who was badly hurt while battling the 2005 "Black Friday" fire in the Bronx.

DiBernardo's mother, Barbara, said the ceremony paid fitting tribute to her son, who died of an accidental drug overdose last year as he dealt with the injuries he suffered in that fire.

"His memory's out there," Barbara DiBernardo said. "He's being recognized. He's being honored. That makes us feel good that his life didn't end in vain. But we will miss him terribly."

"I'm honored," said Carolyn Ingoglia, Joseph DiBernardo's sister. "It's such a humbling experience to see all these people. It's not a sad moment. It's sad but it's like an honor."

This year's honorees include five lieutenants, five firefighters and one paramedic.
