The Navy pays tribute to a fallen hero from Long Island.

A new Navy destroyer has been commissioned in the name of Navy SEAL Lieutenant Michael Murphy.

The ship is currently in port on Staten Island.

It will be open for tours on Sunday before it moves to Pier 88 in Manhattan.

Once there, it will be open to the public next Tuesday and Wednesday before being officially commissioned that Saturday.

Lieutenant Murphy died in 2005.

He was a Navy SEAL who was killed in Afghanistan while calling for reinforcements during an extended fire fight with more than 40 Taliban.

Murphy and three other SEALs killed 35 members of the opposition before three of them perished.
