The New York City Police Department says it happened just after 4 a.m. at the intersection of Arthur Kill Road and Lee Avenue in Tottenville.

Police say the woman, identified as Lisa Roman, 40, and her daughter, Leonora Roman, were asleep at the time inside their first-floor apartment located at 5309 Arthur Kill Road.

They were rushed to Staten Island North University Hospital.

Two other daughters who were sleeping in another room were not injured.

"Everybody was sleeping. Me and my younger sister were sleeping in one room, and my mother and my baby sister were sleeping in the other room. And we're all sleeping and all of a sudden, hear a big crash, and that's when we woke up to hear my mother scream 'Help me. Get this off of me,'" said one of the daughters.

"My daughter and granddaughter ended up being underneath the car, especially the baby. My daughter's head, I think, might have been out, her head and shoulders, but the baby was completely underneath the car. It rolled over the bed completely," said Lisa Roman's mother, Joanne Micciulla.

Police say the driver, identified as Charles Trainor, 22, of Staten Island lost control of the white four-door Hyundai Elantra and slammed into the home.

He was taken into custody and later charged with DWI and two counts of vehicular assault.

People in the neighborhood tell NY1 the same house was hit by a car 10 years ago.

They say they asked for a barrier but only got a directional sign.

The city Department of Buildings says the home was structurally compromised and ordered all resident to leave Friday morning.

The Red Cross is assisting the displaced tenants.
