To fight a growing homeless problem, the city plans to open five new shelters by the end of the year.
Three shelters with 169 apartment-style units will open to families.
Two single-adult shelters containing 234 beds will also open.
Two of the shelters will be in the Bronx.
Manhattan, Queens and Brooklyn will get one each.
The new facilities will bring the city's total number of shelters opened since May up to 15.
City records show the homeless shelter population is just over 46,000, with almost 20,000 children.
