An elderly man died after police say he was struck and killed by a car while hailing a cab on Manhattan's East Side on Saturday night.

Investigators said 80-year-old Rubin Baum, seen above, was standing with his wife in the crosswalk at East 59th Street and Park Avenue shortly before 10:30 p.m. Saturday.

They said a car driving eastbound on 59th Street hit another car going north on Park Avenue, sending the first car spinning into the couple.

Police said Baum was trapped under the car and suffered severe body trauma.

He was pronounced dead at the hospital.

Baum's wife was also taken to the hospital with a leg injury.

Police were still investigating Sunday but said both drivers stayed on the scene.
