The world's largest store is getting a facelift, but not everyone thinks it's a good idea.
Macy's in Herald Square is undergoing a $400 million makeover that will trade in its art deco design for a sleek, 21st century look.
The reconstruction will add 100,000 square feet of retail space and is expected to be complete by 2015.
Some preservationists argue Macy's is abandoning its history to look more like an Apple store.
Macy's officials say it's too early to compare the renovation to Apple since it is still a work in progress.
