Actress Lindsay Lohan was charged this morning after police say she hit a pedestrian in Chelsea and left the scene.

Police say the troubled actress was driving into a parking lot near the Dream Downtown Hotel on 16th Street when she clipped a man just after 12:30 a.m.

They say she went into the hotel after the incident and was arrested as she left around 2:30 a.m.

The pedestrian was taken to Bellevue Hospital with an unspecified leg injury.

Lohan was charged with leaving the scene of an accident and given a desk appearance ticket.

Police do not think alcohol or drugs were a factor.

She will appear in court on October 23.

Her publicist says he expects the actress to be cleared of wrongdoing, and the allegations will be proven false.

On June 8, Lohan was involved in a crash in California that sent her and her assistant to a hospital.

That accident remains under investigation and police have said they are trying to figure out who was driving.

Lohan also remains on informal probation for taking a necklace last year from a jewelry store with terms saying she could face jail time if she is arrested again.
