According to a new court filing, City Comptroller John Liu was the subject of a federal wiretap as part of a wide-reaching probe into his campaign fundraising.
Court papers filed by lawyers for a former fund-raiser for Liu say the comptroller and a top aide were targets of electronic surveillance for over 18 months in 2010 and 2011.
Liu’s former campaign treasurer and a former fundraiser have both been charged in the probe.
In response, Liu’s lawyer, Paul Shechtman, said if the allegations are accurate, “It is not the government’s finest hour.”
Liu has not been implicated in any wrongdoing.
