Greyhound and Peter Pan are looking to put in a new bus stop near Seward Park to ferry passengers to and from Philadelphia.

The companies are proposing eight pickups and eight drop-offs, seven days a week.

Some residents are voicing concerns, including what they see as even more bus congestion, possible health problems and proximity to a nearby playground.

"This is not the place for a bus stop," said one resident. "I am not opposed to a bus stop in the general neighborhood, just not right in front of the children's playground."

"It just adds a bigger bus stop to too many bus stops already," said a second.

City Councilwoman Margaret Chin said the stop is a good idea but says the spot should be chosen with input from others.

"I support having affordable transportation in our community," Chin said. "And a lot of these long-distance buses are important to the economy in the community here, especially down here in Chinatown. But we wanted a way to regulate and sort of manage where they pick up and drop off passengers."

Greyhound said bus passengers will not have access to Seward Park and said they will have crews on site to help with passengers and any garbage.

More than 800 people have signed an online petition to prevent the new bus stop.

The local community board is meeting on Tuesday to discuss the proposal.
