Police arrested a man they say knocked a female officer down a flight of stairs while officers tried to arrest him in Brooklyn.

Michael Ellison, 25, was charged with second-degree assault and theft of service.

Investigators say shortly before 11 a.m. Friday, members of an anti-crime team saw 25-year-old Michael Ellison using a student MetroCard at the Gates Avenue subway station on the J line in Bushwick.

They say Ellison fought back violently as police tried to arrest him, knocking the female officer down the stairs.

She was taken to Wyckoff Hospital with two broken ankles and a cut to her head that required 10 stitches to close.
