The Queens gas station attendant who was involved in a fight that left a man dead says he was acting in self-defense.

Jasjeet Walia was working Thursday when police say 28-year-old Oscar Arzeno came into to the Long Island City gas station to use the ATM.

Walia says when Arzeno couldn't get any money, Arzeno attacked him.

Arzeno died at the hospital.

"He was attacking me violently," Walia said. "I had to do whatever I had to do to defend myself. I didn't want to get hurt. I was scared."

"My brother tried to run across the street and the pursuer went after him and started beating him on the street," said Chris Polanco, the victim's brother.

Walia was questioned and released.

The investigation is still ongoing and the medical examiner has yet to determine the cause of death.
