The Taxi and Limousine Commission has put the brakes on a new app that would allow yellow cab drivers and passengers to find one another.

TLC officials say yellow cab drivers are not allowed to use smart phones, even for hailing passengers or accepting payments.

The tech startup Uber has been successfully using its app to match passengers to available livery cabs.

Uber tried to expand by promising yellow cab drivers their app would lead them to passengers and recruited about 100 cabbies.

The TLC says it's working on technology to make it easier to find a cab and pay for your ride.
