More than a dozen people were injured after a city bus and a school bus collided in Corona, Queens on Thursday afternoon.
It happened around 2:30 p.m. Thursday near 108th Street and the Horace Harding Expressway in Corona.
Metropolitan Transportation Authority officials say the driver of a school bus heading south on 108th Street and clipped two parked cars before smashing head-on into a Q23 bus.
The agency says the school bus driver tried to flee the scene but was stopped two blocks away.
"I saw a bus plowing, going very quickly but I didn't see where he was going to make the turn. There were a lot of cars underneath the highway. He couldn't possibly make a turn. He didn't want to wait for the intersection so he just went in between cars, tried to squeeze his bus between the cars, tried to make the left turn onto Horace Harding," said one witness.
Fourteen people suffered minor injuries, according to police. The Q23 bus driver was one of the injured, according to the MTA. Police say the injuries are all minor.
There were no students on the school bus at the time of the crash.
Police confirmed they have someone in custody in relation to the incident but won't say if it's the yellow school bus driver.
