Police are looking for two men who they say assaulted a homeless man before he was struck by an off-duty cop driving home from work.

Police have surveillance photos of the two alleged suspects.

Authorities say the victim was causing a disturbance at the St. George ferry terminal just after 2:30 a.m. Thursday when he was assaulted and thrown into the street by two men.

A short time later, the victim was accidentally hit in the street by a car driven by the officer.

"The injured is actually embedded under the car, he's removed from under the car," said Police Commissioner Ray Kelly. "I believe he's at Staten Island Hospital now. As I said, he has some serious injuries, a fractured pelvis."

Police say the off-duty officer immediately called for help after the accident.
