Police say it appears the death of a Manhattan woman found at the bottom of a stairwell is a freak accident.

An autopsy for Carlisle Brigham, 29, was scheduled for Tuesday.

Investigators say Brigham was found dead Monday morning in a stairwell of an apartment building located at 191 Orchard Street on the Lower East Side.

Police say Brigham had a wound to her neck, leading investigators to initially believe she may have been slashed.

Brigham is the daughter of banker James Brigham, who worked as the City Budget Director under Mayor Ed Koch.
