Children and young adults grabbed rakes and put on work gloves to clean up sidewalks, senior citizens' yards and abandoned lots Saturday in East Flatbush.
City Councilman Jumaane Williams put together the event as a way to encourage kids to think green and to instill a sense of community pride.
"Well I live around here and I feel as if my community should be clean, and as my duty living around here, I think that I should help clean up too," said community resident Shaina Williams.
"I heard one of the kids saying she's going to be really upset now if she sees somebody throw one of the garbage, some garbage down on the floor," Williams said. "So I think it's having the proper impact."
Volunteers were rewarded for a job well done with two free tickets to a Mets game.
