A New York City Police Department officer has found himself on the wrong side of the law after getting arrested for rape.

Police Officer Arthur Roldan, 28, seen above, was taken into custody Wednesday night and pleaded not guilty in his arraignment Thursday to charges of first-degree rape, menacing and third-degree assault.

Police say he was off duty when the attack allegedly happened around 11 p.m. Tuesday at a parking lot off Father Capodanno Boulevard on Staten Island.

According to the Staten Island district attorney's office, Roldan pointed a firearm at his victim and also held a knife to her face before raping her.

Sources tell NY1 the victim is a female acquaintance of the officer.

The judge issued an order of protection for Roldan, preventing him from having contact with the alleged victim.

"The one thing I can say is he maintains his innocence and we're going to investigate it," said Matthew Santamauro, Roldan's attorney.

Roldan, has been with the NYPD for six years, working out of the 78th precinct in Prospect Heights, Brooklyn. He was suspended without pay.

Roldan was released on $20,000 bail Thursday. He is due back in court on September 26.
