The Intrepid Sea, Air and Space Museum hosted SpaceFest Weekend Sunday, giving would-be space explorers an out-of-this-world experience.

The event included video presentations and robotic demonstrations.

Real astronauts were on hand, hoping to inspire younger visitors.

"I'm hoping that some of the kids that talk to me or my fellow astronauts come to the Intrepid, see the exhibits and get inspired to put in the hard work so they can participate in that in the future," said former astronaut Dr. Lee Morin.

"We're working on building a rocket and space craft that will replace the shuttle and give an opportunity to these young Americans to fly in space on American rockets," said former NASA astronaut Garrett Reisman. "So seeing these kids gives me inspiration to go back and do a good job. "

SpaceFest is also featuring the Connect a Million Minds initiative, which NY1's parent company, Time Warner Cable, is a proud sponsor of.

It helps kids focus on careers in science, engineering and math.

Time Warner Cable is also a sponsor of the Space Shuttle Enterprise exhibit, which officially became a part of the Intrepid Museum Thursday.
