A woman and six firefighters were injured in a fire at an Upper East Side building Saturday night.

Fire officials said the flames broke out around 10:45 p.m. Saturday inside a grocery store at 88th Street and 3rd Avenue.

The deputy chief on the scene said the fire spread to the second and third floors and caused heavy damage to the building.

One woman was found collapsed on the stairs and was taken to the hospital.

“The fire was stubborn," said FDNY Deputy Chief John Hodgens. "It was in the walls with a lot of smoke. And our units did an excellent job in extinguishment."

"We start yelling at people in their apartments 'Come down, come down. There’s a fire. There’s a fire,'" said a witness. "They come down, eventually. They drop the ladder down and they start coming. That’s when the fire trucks came."

Six firefighters suffered minor injuries.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
