A Bronx senior citizen was hospitalized Thursday after his grandson allegedly attacked him with a hammer.
Police said the 66-year-old man was struck in the head at his home in Bedford Park Thursday afternoon.
Police said the alleged 21-year-old suspect fled after the attack.
Neighbors said the grandson has a history of mental health problems.
"I was in shock," said Sonia Texeira, who lives in the building. "I didn't know what to think. I knew who it was, you know, once they told me but I didn't think he'd go that far though. Because he'd never been that crazy."
The victim is being treated for a laceration to the head.
