This year's Sept. 11th commemoration ceremony will not include a speaking role for politicians.
In a letter sent to victims' families Wednesday, the 9/11 Memorial Foundation said the exclusive focus of the program will be on the reading of victims' names.
Memorial president Joe Daniels said the decision was made to pay tribute in a manner that is free of politics.
Mayor Michael Bloomberg, who chairs the memorial foundation, had previously said he wasn't sure if the names should be read now that the memorial, which lists all the names, is open.
He has not commented on the letter.
