A docking cruise ship on Manhattan's West Side caused a bit of a stir Sunday when a wake jostled an exhibit at the nearby Intrepid Sea, Air and Space Museum.

Museum officials say a gangway to the retired Growler Submarine was damaged by a wave from a docking Norwegian Cruise Line ship around 7:30 a.m.

Norwegian released a statement saying strong current conditions forced an officer to use the ship's propulsion and thrusters which created a wake in the surrounding waters.

None of the passengers was injured but some say they could tell something was wrong.

"You just heard like a loud crunch of a...like a metal sound. We looked over and we saw the submarine crashing against the dock," said one witness.

"I noticed the ladder to the submarine - it started to slide down from the waves of the ship just taxiing in, and then it fell into the water completely," said another witness.

Museum officials say the cruise ship's wake didn't cause any damage to the Intrepid itself.
