Consolidated Edison workers could be walking a picket line for the first time in 30 years Sunday.

About 8,500 members of Local 1-2 of the Utility Workers of America authorized a strike if a new contract is not reached by the time their current one expires Saturday night.

Union officials said workers are prepared to be on strike at 12:01 a.m. Sunday.

Negotiations between the company and the union are going on in Westchester County.

Workers said pensions are a sticking point.

The utility said it's looking forward to productive discussion on a fair new contract.

The last time Con Edison workers went on strike was in 1983.
