Consolidated Edison is warning its customers about a telephone payment scam.
The utility says hundreds of people have already been targeted.
Scammers tell customers the utility will turn off service unless they pay their bill over the phone with a Green Dot pre-paid card.
They then steal the money on the card.
Con Ed says sometimes its phone number will show up on caller ID even though it's a scam call.
To report a scam, call 1-800-75-CONED.
