Arrested Brooklyn Light Artist Passes Mental Health Test

The artist who was arrested for an outdoor art installation in Brooklyn in May passed a mental health exam Thursday.
Appearing in court, Takeshi Miyakawa said he had no idea hanging bags that read "I Love New York" in Williamsburg would cause a bomb scare and cost him five days at Riker's Island.
"I did the installation to send a simple message," Miyakawa said. "I love New York too, to people in the street. It's such a positive and simple message. I thought it was going to work out fine. There was some misunderstanding. I'm sorry about that."
The artist is scheduled to be back in court July 19.
He's charged with planting false bombs, reckless endangerment and criminal nuisance.
His lawyer hopes the charges will be dropped.
