A man has died after he fell while doing repair work on top of an elevator on a cargo ship in Staten Island Saturday morning.

According to police, the man was working on top of an elevator on a cargo ship at the New York Container Terminal when he slipped and fell.

Police said the man pinned himself between the elevator and elevator shaft.

The man was removed to street level via a ladder bucket, according to fire officials.

Officials said the man was transported to Richmond University Medical Center where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

The man's identity has not been released but police said he was white and in his 60s.
