A former NYPD sergeant hired to stop shoplifters at an Apple Store is instead accused of stealing thousands of dollars of merchandise.
42-year-old Manuel Dasilva is charged with second degree grand larceny.
Investigators said surveillance video shows him stealing more than $75,000 worth of iPads, iPhones and iPods while working as a security guard at the SoHo Apple Store.
They said Dasilva admitted to stealing and selling merchandise, although not as much as he is accused of.
Police found more than $12,000 of cash in his home.
Dasilva has been released without bail.
He’s due back in court in September.
He reportedly left the police force after being implicated in a steroid use scandal.
