The president of the NAACP took aim at the New York City Police Department's stop-and-frisk policy on NY1's Inside City Hall Wednesday.
Ben Jealous said that Mayor Bloomberg needs to overhaul the program and called it the most massive street-level racial profiling program in the country.
The comments came just days before Jealous is expected to join other civil rights groups in a protest against the practice.
“A little kind of trim here, a tuck there isn’t going to change the fact that he’s doing 10 times more stop-and-frisks and way more racial profiling than we even saw under Giuliani,” Jealous said.
In a speech at a Brownsville church last weekend, Mayor Bloomberg defended the practice, saying that while it may need some reform, it is keeping the city safer.
