NYPD Emergency Service Unit Has Two Separate Rescues Within An Hour

It was a busy Saturday for officers from the NYPD's Emergency Service Unit who rescued two people in Manhattan in the course of an hour.
Police say around 12:30 p.m. Saturday ESU officers answered a call on East Sixth Street where they found a 50-year-old woman threatening to jump out the window of her sixth-floor apartment.
While officers on the street talked with the woman, two other officers entered the apartment, snuck up on the woman and pulled her back inside.
About an hour later, officers were called to the East River to rescue a man who jumped in the water.
Detectives wearing dry suits entered the water and pulled the man to safety.
"It's nice to utilize your equipment and do what you are expected to do. Be able to help some people out and two people in one day, it was nice," said NYPD ESU Sergeant Edward Allen.
"Guys did a great job. Teamwork and training kicked in and we were able to complete the task, both of them," said NYPD ESU Detective Keith Connelly.
Both of the people rescued were taken to Bellevue Hospital for psychiatric evaluations.
