FBI Reportedly Has Doubts About Recent Confession In Etan Patz Case

Pedro Hernandez may have confessed to killing six-year-old Etan Patz in SoHo in 1979, but according to reports the FBI is not convinced by his account.
The New York Daily News reports FBI investigators doubt Hernandez's story of luring the boy into a SoHo bodega, strangling him in the basement and discarding the boy's body in the trash.
Hernandez's history of mental illness and some inconsistencies in his story have made investigators skeptical, according to the Daily News.
A police source also tells the paper the FBI thinks the New York City Police Department moved too fast, and that some in the Manhattan district attorney’s office wanted more proof before Hernandez was arrested.
Other reports say detectives are confident Hernandez was involved, since his confession apparently included details of the case only the killer could have known.
Meanwhile, vigils were recently held at Etan's one-time SoHo home and the site of the killing, which is now an eyeglasses store.
By Sunday, the Patz family had not spoken publicly about Hernandez's arrest.
Hernandez remained at Manhattan's Bellevue Hospital on Sunday for a psychiatric assessment, after he was arraigned Friday on second-degree murder charges.
