An airline pilot is under arrest in Buffalo after allegedly trying to bring a loaded gun onto a flight to New York City.

The U.S. Attorney's Office says a screener at Buffalo-Niagara International Airport spotted the .357 Magnum in Brett Dieter's bag yesterday before he boarded a flight to LaGuardia Airport.

Investigators believe the 52-year-old had been flying with the gun since Wednesday, when he flew from Charlottesville, Virginia to New York without having his bag X-rayed.

He'd made seven flights since.

A Transportation Security Administration spokeswoman said that Dieter is not part of a Federal Flight Deck Officer Program, which allows pilots to carry guns on planes.

Dieter is charged with possession of a concealed firearm and is due in court on Wednesday.
