Cooper Union To Begin Charging Grad Students Tuition

Cooper Union announced this week it will be charging tuition for the first time in more than 100 years, but only for some graduate programs.
Undergraduate students will still be accepted on full scholarships.
Cooper Union has been trying to cut spending and raise funds.
Students say charging tuition goes against founder Peter Cooper's vision that education should be free.
The school is also going all-out to solicit donations -- and its president has pledged to donate five percent of his salary to the school's Annual Fund.
Cooper Union has not charged tuition since 1902, but some student fees were adopted in the 1970s.
