The head of the New York branch of the Susan G. Komen breast cancer organization is resigning.

Doctor Dara Richardson will step down as CEO at the end of April.

In a statement, Richardson said she was leaving to pursue new career opportunities.

She was a critic of the organization's decision to cut funding to Planned Parenthood last month.

The charity later backtracked, and has continued funding the clinic.

The New York affiliate of Komen provides nearly $5 million in grants to support breast-cancer research and education.
