The hefty fine for fare beaters on select buses is apparently doing the trick.
According to the Daily News, since the Metropolitan Transportation Authority began handing out $100 tickets, fare evasion on the M15 Select Bus has been cut in half.
A survey shortly after the service debuted on Manhattan's East Side estimated that nearly seven percent of riders boarded without paying.
A new survey from this year found just 3.5 percent of riders did not pay.
The M15 route runs between 126th Street in Harlem and South Ferry along First and Second Avenues.
Inspectors routinely check buses on the route to make sure riders have paid.
