Police Arrest Suspect In Fatal Staten Island Stabbing

A suspect wanted in the deadly stabbing of a Staten Island groom-to-be over the weekend was in police custody on Tuesday.

Redinel Dervishaj, a 35-year-old waiter, was picked up by U.S. Marshals at his aunt's house in a suburb of Chicago, according to sources.

Antonio Lacertosa, 27, was stabbed in the torso early Saturday morning outside the Espana Restaurant in Annadale.

Investigators say Lacertosa was celebrating his engagement to his high school sweetheart at the restaurant.

According to reports, two of his brothers were thrown out for being rowdy and they retaliated by urinating on an outside wall.

Witnesses say Lacertosa went outside to see what was going on and was stabbed.

Authorities say Dervishaj has a prior record of violent crime and pleaded guilty to attempted grand larceny last year.

The criminal complaint says Dervishaj entered a Queens home in 2007 and threatened someone's wife and mother at gunpoint.

Dervishaj's former neighbor in the Bay Terrace section of Staten Island said they did not know him well, but he was quiet.

At Lacertosa's wake at the Scalia funeral home on Staten Island on Tuesday night, the victim's mother received people as they lined up outside to pay their respects.

She told reporters she was "eternally grateful to the police department for having caught this man and making today just a little more bearable."

Lacertosa's funeral is scheduled for Thursday.

By late Tuesday it was not known when Dervishaj would be returned to New York to face charges.
