The Long Island University Brooklyn men's basketball team played the top-seeded Michigan State Spartans in Ohio Friday night, and famed movie director Spike Lee was among those in Brooklyn cheering on the Blackbirds.

Lee and other Blackbirds fans were in an Applebee's restaurant in Downtown Brooklyn, near the LIU campus, to cheer on their beloved team.

"We're very proud of Brooklyn and people from it, and any time Brooklynites do something well, we stand up," said Lee.

Before the game, Spartans head coach Tom Izzo called the Brooklyn team more than a formidable foe.
