An elevator service company says it fired five mechanics who were on duty during a deadly accident that killed an advertising executive in Midtown.
Transel Elevator announced the firings just two days after a city report said a mechanic had overridden an important safety system before the December accident.
Suzanne Hart, 41, was crushed to death when the elevator jumped up as she stepped in.
The Manhattan district attorney's office is now weighing possible criminal charges.
Transel says they will make more changes based on an internal review.
