Hailing a taxi could soon be a little less confusing, especially for out-of-towners.

The city's Taxi and Limousine Commission is going ahead with a plan to scrap the current taxi rooftop lights in favor of ones should will be much easier to understand.

The TLC floated the idea last fall and was overwhelmingly approved by passengers.

Under the new plan, the taxi's medallion number will either be on if it is available or off if it is not.

The current light system indicates four possibilities, depending on which of the off-duty and medallion lights are lit.

Medallion owners will be directed to start taking down the old signs this fall.
